Pelosi . . . Are You Serious?

Posted by Tom Sawyer.

I found this at CNS News. Click here for the whole article.

After this short audio clip, I'll quote some from the news article.

Now from the news article:
Currently, each of the five health care overhaul proposals being considered in Congress would command every American adult to buy health insurance. Any person defying this mandate would be required to pay a penalty to the Internal Revenue Service.

In 1994, when the health care reform plan then being advanced by President Clinton called for mandating that all Americans buy health insurance, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office studied the issue and concluded:

“The government has never required people to buy any good or service as a condition of lawful residence in the United States. An individual mandate would have two features that, in combination, would make it unique. First, it would impose a duty on individuals as members of society. Second, it would require people to purchase a specific service that would be heavily regulated by the federal government.”
CNS News also sent the following questions to Pelosi's office:
“If it is the Speaker’s belief that there is a provision in the Constitution that does give Congress this power, does she believe the Constitution in any way limits the goods and services Congress can force an individual to purchase?" CNSNews.com asked. "If so, what is that limit?”

Hey, look, OSO. They included you too. LOL

"Dad's great, but listening to all that talk radio has put some weird ideas into his head," said daughter Samantha, a freshman at Reed College in Portland, OR. "He believes the Constitution allows the government to torture people and ban gay marriage, yet he doesn't even know that it guarantees universal health care."

On a different note, here's Ayn Rand discussing religion

Sorry, here

I am aware of the late Ms. Rand's religious views. What I would like to know about her is how she pronounced her first name.

I don't understand how Ayn Rand's militant atheism has any relevance here. None of the four of us is an Objectivist. I'm a libertarian which is probably as close as any of us gets. Of course Ayn Rand derisively referred to libertarians as "right-wing hippies".

By the way Tom, "Ayn" rhymes with "mine".

I think, Allen, that OneSight was trying to convict us of something or other by use of an inductive fallacy. At least that was my guess. I was just indulging him.

Rand was a capitalist.
We are capitalists.
Therefore we must necessarily believe theologically like Rand in order to be consistent.

Or, maybe. . . .

Rand's stringent capitalism led to (or from) her atheism, so then those who believe in the capitalist system must also accept her atheism. Or something like that.

I'm not sure what you call that particular fallacy. I haven't received my book from Amazon yet.

I thought about mentioning the atheism of Lenin and Mao just for fun, but I thought my humor might not humor him. In fact, I thought the connection would probably just be lost on him.

OneSight believes in big government.
Mao and Lenin believed in big government.
OneSight must be for the mass murder of Christians.

Anyway, it is the same error he has indulged in before. For example:

Tim McVeigh hated big government.
Tim McVeigh committed war against the government.
All people who hate big government are potentially Tim McVeighs or must necessarily believe in making was on the government.

Again, I could have pointed out that the Unibomber was a leftist, and that meant that potentially he would be sending mail bombs next week, but sometimes I find it amusing to humor him and sometimes I get bored with him.

That's make "war", not make "was" and by "he" sending out mail bombs I meant OSO.

Does anyone know how to edit a comment after it is up?

I don't know how to edit a comment after it is up, but then I don't even have a clue what you were trying to say. If you want to hate on Mao man, then that's your thing. I feel you. It ain't my thing, but it might be your thing. I like Che, but that's because he rode a motorcycle. Did you ever see this movie?
